Putting patients in control of their pain

The Trust, working in partnership with NHS Calderdale and NHS Kirklees, was one of only 8 sites nationally, chosen to take part in this ambitious programme funded by the Health Foundation.

The Co-creating Health programme helps people manage their long term conditions through developing the knowledge, skills and confidence to manage their condition with the support of a specially trained team of clinicians and voluntary tutors.

Dr Dimple Vyas, chronic pain consultant at the Trust, is the clinical lead for the programme.

Since its launch in 2007, the programme has helped hundreds of people living in Calderdale and Kirklees, and, through its success, has been extended until August 2012.

Initially focussing on chronic musculo skeletal pain, the project has recently started to expand into chronic chest problems, specifically chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
