Nick Knowles, presenter of the BBC hit show DIY SoS: The Big Build has been filming at the Child Development Unit (CDU) at Calderdale Royal Hospital.
He interviewed consultant paediatrician Sal Uka for a programme about young patient, Joshua Martina-Hopkins, whose home in Sowerby Bridge they are transforming.
The team, and an army of local traders, are converting the family home to make it easier for Joshua and his family.
Dr Uka has been their consultant for several years and has visited the build. He said: “It was important to be able to explain how the medical side of Joshua’s care is a huge team effort. Our staff work hard with Joshua’s parents and extended family, to try to improve his life.
“Making these vast alterations to their home will be a huge boost for the whole family who have been through so much.”
Michelle, Joshua’s mum, said: “Joshua has been involved with the Child Development Unit since he fell ill, and the support from all the different professionals - physiotherapy, occupational therapy, CDU Play Specialists, Portage, the CDU administrator and Dr Uka, and previously Dr Clogher, has been priceless and we could not have done it without them.”
