Supportive Care Provision

The term supportive care refers to all the services that may be required to support people with cancer, their carers and families (NICE 2004).The majority of the supportive care services offered within the Trust to patients with a cancer or haematological cancer are provided within the Macmillan Unit at The Calderdale Royal Hospital. This is a purpose built unit that provides the appropriate facilities for such services. The unit forms part of joint cancer services for the Trust and has been developed as a joint venture between Macmillan Cancer Support and Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust. Where feasible some outreach services are also provided at Huddersfield Royal Infirmary.
