Ultrasound
Within the Trust there are two main Ultrasound departments at Huddersfield Royal Infirmary (HRI) and Calderdale Royal Hospital (CRH).
In addition, peripheral ultrasound machines are located on each site within the Early Pregnancy Assessment units, Ante-Natal Day Units, Breast Units, Intensive Care Units and Special Care Baby Units.
Ultrasound machines are also located within satellite units at Valley Medical Centre, Hebden Bridge and Princess Royal Hospital, Huddersfield.
The departments perform many varied examinations, from obstetric scans to complicated interventional procedures, such as prostate biopsies. The majority of the scans are undertaken by Advanced Practitioners, highly qualified members of staff who report their own examinations. As The Calderdale & Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust is a forward thinking organisation, some of the Advanced Practitioners perform biopsy and drainage procedures, which has led to a reduction in waiting times for such treatments.
There is a wide range of modern equipment on both sites, most being the latest technology. Additionally, there is an effective programme for renewal of equipment.
