Due to Covid-19 we've had to temporarily stand down our Voluntary service.

Employability Hub & Work Experience

Covid-19 has greatly impacted upon CHFT ability to accommodate young people and adults on much needed Work Experience / Volunteering placements as well as deliver general "Work Readiness" activities. The Employability Hub has been created to enable us to flexibly deliver activities both "in person" and "online" via MS teams. This will be available to both internal colleagues and external partners such as schools, colleges, training providers and other organisations working with local young people and adults

The overall aim of the Employability Hub is to widen participation from across our local communities and to increase overall awareness of the vast range of NHS roles (clinical and nonclinical) including hidden NHS Career options here at CHFT

The Employability Team have developed a range of "work readiness" activities that we would like to offer to young people and adults, members of our communities that face additional barriers, existing colleagues seeking development / secondments into Apprenticeships and others who may not have considered the NHS as a career option before.

Activities include visits to the Trust, mentoring projects with a range of partners and online workshops where you can meet NHS professionals and undertake development activities to support you into employment / placements

Our aim is to build expertise in those who need it, by leveraging those who have it

WORK EXPERIENCE

Due to the level of demand for work experience placements there are two streams for arranging / offering placements as follows.

COVID-19: Please note, anyone accessing in person work experience / volunteering in clinical areas must be doubly vaccinated, agree to twice weekly testing and adherence to all CHFT Covid-19 guidelines and protocols. Nonclinical / none patient facing placements are also available and ideally all candidates again must follow guidelines as laid out above

Centrally Managed Work Experience

Most placements are arranged with our local colleges and schools partnerships though college tutors during set weeks throughout the year. This enables us to manage placements effectively and ensure equality of opportunity for all students. Please contact your school careers lead in the first instance to check when placements have been arranged with your institution

The work experience team will liaise with wards and departments to arrange placements for students during these set weeks and will manage all the associated administration and paperwork.

Please note that in all cases priority will be given to students studying in the HD and HX areas and those facing  additional barriers to entry. To be eligible for a work experience placement the following criteria must be met:

  • Student must be aged 16 or over
  • Student must complete and return a Work Experience Application Form

Placements can be arranged from a half day day to a maximum of 30 hours taken in 5 consecutive days or a day a week over maximum of 15 consecutive weeks subject to availability

Placements for Traineeships (25 hours per week up to 6 weeks to 6 months) will need to go through additional compliance checks. Placements such as this and hours over will be classed as volunteering and requires commitment for at least 6 months or more.
