Self referral chest x-ray

Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust is working on trialling a Self-Referral Chest X-ray service to improve diagnosis and access for patients.

Detecting lung cancer earlier means that patients can receive further specialist tests and timely treatment to help prevent the cancer from spreading or advancing to a higher stage.

Earlier detection of lung cancer saves lives.

Who is eligible?

The Self-Referral Chest X-ray service is a new initiative,it has been developed to provide Calderdale residents the opportunity to self-refer themselves to have a Chest X-ray to determine if they potentially could have lung cancer without needing to be seen by their GP first.

To be eligible for the Self-Referral Chest X-ray trial you must:

  • Be aged 40 or older
  • Registered with one of these GP practices in Calderdale (see below list)
  • Not have had a chest X-ray in the last three months.

If you have had one or more of the following symptoms for more than three weeks:

  • Loss of appetite or weight
  • Chest pain
  • Fatigue or tiredness
  • Cough
  • Difficulty in breathing

Due to this being a trial we can only see patients if you are registered with one of the following GP practices in Calderdale:

  • The Boulevard Medical Practice
  • Spring Hall Group Practice
  • Rose Garth Surgery
  • King Cross Practice

How do I use the service?

No appointment is necessary.

Just walk in to any of our X-ray departments and ask to use the Self-Request Chest X-ray service.  You will be asked to complete a paper form to check you are eligible, before having your Chest X-ray.
