Congratulations to Assistant Practitioner, Tracy Heyhoe, and Senior Physiotherapist, Hayley Magill, on their joint Star Award win. The pair were nominated by Community Therapy Services Manager, Dave Nuttall, for their dedication and commitment during a time of significant pressure within their team. Their nomination reads:
"The Intermediate Care Unit team play a pivotal role in the flow of patients who require rehabilitation from the acute setting back into community. Throughout a challenging period, Hayley has been a pillar of support for colleagues, both in and out of work. She has regularly changed her working day to support the team and also informally worked on her days off to receive calls and assist with planning and triage. Hayley exemplifies 'putting the person first' and is always on hand to support assessment and review whilst maintaining clear communication with the team, local authority, private care provider, the family, and most importantly the patient.
"Tracy, despite already being a fantastic Assistant Practitioner, has really stepped up her level to acknowledge the potential risk and challenge to service delivery. I was significantly impressed when visiting to hear her grasp of each patient requirement, challenges, goals and risk. Her calming influence on others has been essential to maintain a disciplined productive environment, where tasks are created and completed on time. This organisation has led to timely discharges and flow through the unit to allow flow from the hospital sites.
"I have to emphasise my sincere thanks and praise for them both. Both are role models that should be praised and highlighted as examples of what can be achieved with compassion, support, organisation and hard work."
A Lead Nurse from a private care provider recently got in touch to share the following message about Tracy and Hayley:
"I feel compelled to let you know how my colleagues and I feel that Tracy is working way above and beyond her role at present. Each day is reassuring to know she is around. Her communication regarding the patients, changes and requirements is fantastic. She is without doubt taking on a lead role right now, especially in discharge planning. She manages her workload well, meets challenges head on with positivity and confidence. She plays a very present role and is always seen actively involved in progressing patients with everything from therapy goals, functional assessments and engaging them in discharge planning. She is clearly a huge support to Hayley right now (who is also working extremely well under the current demands of the service and is greatly appreciated by us). Her absence on days off is felt and patients and relatives will often ask for her.
"We also wanted to pass on our compliments regarding Hayley. Hayley has continued to remain positive, despite the increased demands and pressure placed upon her. She continues to work closely with us, maintaining a high level of communication and information sharing. She has been a constant role model, supervisor and support to the rest of the team. She has accepted lead responsibility and frequently worked above her role. She has shown flexibility within her work and home life to meet the needs of the service. She is an absolute pleasure to work alongside and despite facing many challenges recently, has been a reassuring presence.
"We really enjoy working within the partnership and fully appreciate the support and working relationship we have with Hayley."
