Congratulations to newly qualified Nursing Associate, James Morley, who has been awarded a CNO/CMidO Student Excellence Award by NHS England - his second award in just two months.
The award recognises nursing, midwifery, nursing associate students and apprentices who make an exceptional contribution beyond the expectations of their training programme. It celebrates learners who demonstrate outstanding care, leadership, innovation, inclusivity and NHS values while making a meaningful difference to patients, colleagues, fellow students, and their communities. Only a small number of awards are presented nationally, so it's a brilliant achievement. James is the first learner from CHFT to receive this recognition, which highlights his exceptional impact.
A shocked James was presented with his award by Jordan McKenna, who is the Regional AHP Workforce Manager for NHS England – North East and Yorkshire.
He said: "Just wow! I cannot believe it! I am very overwhelmed and loving life and my job. It is great to be recognised, even though I do not do the things I do for this, it's just in my nature to care. I thrive to progress and make a difference at CHFT. I knew nothing about this award and was very overwhelmed as receiving it is a very big deal. It was also great to see my partner and work colleagues from the Coronary Care Unit, which overwhelmed me with tears."
Chief Nurse, Jo Hilton, pictured with James, said: "What a fantastic difference you make to those you care for and work alongside. It was an absolute pleasure to be part of your celebration. Keep being amazing at what you do."
Deputy Chief Nurse, Jo Middleton added: "Thank you for being such an amazing ambassador for nursing. It’s the best job in the world – even on the hardest of days. Your passion and enthusiasm for the role is infectious and I cant wait to see you continue to sprinkle your magic dust across CHFT!"
James was nominated by Senior Clinical Educator, Gill Davis, who wrote: "James consistently delivers exceptional, person-centred care and has made a significant positive impact on patients, families, and colleagues. During a hospice placement, he independently organised a theatre visit for a patient receiving end-of-life care, enabling them to fulfil a cherished final wish. His compassion, advocacy, attention to dignity, and commitment to patient-centred care had a profound effect on the patient’s wellbeing and experience.
