Our urgent and emergency care teams celebrate top performance

Some of our A&E team

It's smiles all round for our urgent and emergency care teams as they have yet again pulled a top performance out of the bag. In September 2025, our Emergency Care Standard performance (the number of patients seen in 4 hours) was 85.6%, the highest we have achieved since June 2021.

This achievement means that CHFT are now second out of 127 Trusts nationally for Type 1 performance. The Trust in first position is a specialist children’s hospital, so as an Emergency Department caring for patients of all ages and conditions, CHFT are in top place.

Head Nurse, Urgent and Emergency Care, Tom Ladlow, said: "This is not just a number. Behind every figure is a patient, and this performance is a reflection of the outstanding teamwork, dedication, and compassion our staff bring to their roles and to our patients every single day.

"What makes this even more remarkable and true testament to our collective team spirit, is that it has been delivered against a backdrop of ongoing challenges, sustained high demand, and constant operational pressures. The resilience, adaptability, and determination of all staff have made this possible."
