The Stroke Recovery Ward at CRH have taken delivery of two new shower chairs, funded by our CHFT Charity, which will help provide patients recovering from a stroke with greater dignity and independence.

For many patients who have had a stroke, recovery can mean spending a long time in hospital. So being able to shower safely and comfortably can make a huge difference. It can help maintain dignity, independence and support recovery.

Ward Manager, Becky Sykes-Elwers, said: "Stroke patients can be in hospital for a long time, sometimes weeks or months, so a shower can make all the difference to someone who is unable to move themselves. It's a lovely feeling to have your hair washed and feel fresher! Self image and mental health are obviously affected by strokes so this is a small way of helping our patients.

With the two new shower chairs, we can offer showers to a larger amount of people. The shower chairs are great for patients who do not have any sitting balance who aren't able to use our normal Sani chairs."
