Yorkshire’s Bridget Jones author donates to CHFT

Our charity has a new home and a new supporter – Bridget Jones creator Helen Fielding.

Celebrating 25 years of Bridget Jones this week, Helen and the Daily Mail have donated the fees to Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Charity

Helen spoke affectionately and openly about the care her mum has received over the years as a patient of CHFT and why she feels it is so important to say thank you to our colleagues. And having created one of the most iconic female characters of all time, what a real morale boost to know Helen and Bridget are right behind us!

Helen said, “I feel especially grateful to Huddersfield Infirmary for always taking such good care of my Mum Nellie, and for the warm, funny and lovely people there. I, like everyone else, am looking on in awe at the way NHS staff are keeping going through this crisis day after day when every one of them is exhausted, overstretched and dealing with such hardship and sadness. This is a thank you to Calderdale and Huddersfield staff, to show how much you are appreciated. Bridget always likes to look on the bright side and I hope that the donation will go specifically towards giving the staff a treat. (Though I understand chardonnay is not allowed on the wards).

Helen’s call also coincided with another momentous occasion for Emma – the opening of her “new home” a permanent base at HRI in the main entrance. (see pic)

She sent her thanks Jammal and estates for her new home: “The transformation has been incredible. It’s an amazing opportunity to raise our profile and engage with colleagues, patients and our communities and it also offers a really positive and warm welcome to the front entrance of HRI. My thanks to Jammal and the estates team!
