During the procedure

Once in the procedure room you will be asked to lay flat on a trolley, sterile sheets will be arranged around your genitals and the endoscopist will clean this area.

Anaesthetic jelly is inserted into the urethra, this lubricates and numbs the area. It is given a few minutes to work and then the thin flexible cystoscopy tube is inserted into the urethra and into the bladder.

An image is displayed onto a monitor which you will be able to view. Solution is run into the bladder via the tube to inflate the bladder to improve the views.

The procedure takes a few minutes and might be slightly uncomfortable. A nurse will remain with you throughout the procedure.

On completion of the procedure the endoscopist will discuss with you the findings and any further treatment required.
