Palliative Care
Palliative care is care that focusses on physical, emotional and practical support to people with a life-limiting diagnosis. It is care that can and should be delivered at any stage of that illness, not just when someone is thought to be dying. Palliative care also supports families, friends and those caring for the individual, offering advice, reassurance and help with decision-making.
If you, or a loved one, is living with a life-limiting illness, palliative care will focus on:
- Managing your symptoms such as pain, breathlessness, anxiety or feeling sick
- Supporting your emotional and spiritual needs
- Providing practical support including planning for the future or arranging equipment where needed
- Helping you and those close to you to live as well as possible, whether this is alongside your medical treatment or if the focus of your care is on maximising comfort
