This week we are celebrating our fantastic apprentices across CHFT as part of National Apprenticeship Week. We have around 80 apprentices working with us at the moment, and last week we shared the positive feedback from Ofsted following an inspection as an Apprenticeship Employer Provider.
The Cardiology Department have shared how they work together with Sheffield College, and currently have three Level 2 Assistants, and four Level 4 Associates. They also have two degree apprentices from Sheffield Hallam University, both of which started at Level 2 and have worked their way up.
Senior Cardiac Physiologist and Educational Lead, Wayne Massey (pictured on the right), said: "All our apprentices play a important part in keeping our diagnostic waiting times down by working at both main sites, and also at our Halifax and Huddersfield Community Diagnostic Centres (CDCs). They perform tests, such as ECGs, Ambulatory ECGs, blood pressure and respiratory function testing.
"Our most recent success is Olivia (pictured far left), who has recently passed her Level 2 apprenticeship with a Distinction!"
Also pictured are Apprentice Healthcare Science associates, Hannah Khan and Amy Tyler (left and right in the centre).
Healthcare Assistant, Charlie Singleton has also shared her experience with us: "I began my experience with the Trust working within the apprenticeship team as an Administrative Assistant. While this role gave me a good understanding of how services operate, I soon realised administration was not for me. Exposure to clinical environments sparked my interest in patient care, leading me to start the Healthcare Assistant apprenticeship.
"I am now nearing the end of my apprenticeship, having developed strong clinical skills and confidence. During this time, I also became a parent, balancing work, study, and family life — an experience that has strengthened my resilience, time management, and determination to succeed.
"Alongside my apprenticeship, I began an Access to Higher Education course and have been accepted to study Midwifery at the University of Huddersfield from September 2026. My ambition is to return to CHFT once qualified as a midwife."
Thank you to all our apprentices and to our colleagues who support them to thrive here at CHFT.
