High five for Ava…transplant games gold medallist

Published on:

Our Liver Specialist Nurse, Caroline Winkley has been celebrating this weekend after daughter Ava, who had a liver transplant at the age of five, won two gold medals and three silvers for swimming in the British Transplant Games in Leeds.

Caroline, left, said: “It’s the first time in two years that they have been held due to COVID. It’s our home games so it was even more special. And for Ava, now aged 14, to come away with gold medals in the 25m butterfly and 25m backstroke was the icing on the cake. She topped these off with silver medals in the 25m and 50m freestyle and the relay. She’s now hoping to be selected for GB for the World Games in Australia next year”.

Ava was one of 850 transplant recipents who took part in over the weekend of 28th - 31st July.
