Simon's shortlisted for a UK Oncology Nursing Society Award

Simon Bolton

Lung Cancer Nurse, Simon Bolton has been shortlisted for a United Kingdom Oncology Nursing Society (UKONS) Award for his work around mesothelioma cancer.

Mesothelioma is a rare, incurable cancer, often caused by asbestos exposure.

Nominated by Cancer Services Sister, Caroline Summers, part of his nomination reads: "Simon demonstrated both initiative and leadership by launching a dedicated mesothelioma patient and carer information and support group. This was only the second of its kind in the UK at the time. His commitment extended further as he played a pivotal role in supporting the growth of the South Yorkshire Asbestos Victim Support Group, helping it evolve into a vital resource that now reaches across the entire Yorkshire and Humber region. This significantly improved access to support for individuals affected by asbestos-related diseases (ARDs), where previously services had been fragmented.

"Simon is a highly respected and accomplished Clinical Nurse Specialist with over 20 years of experience. Throughout his career, he has demonstrated exceptional leadership, guiding and mentoring teams of Clinical Nurse Specialists and playing a key role in the development of new and essential roles within cancer care. His strategic insight and commitment to service improvement have shaped more responsive and patient-focused nursing teams.

"Simon’s career reflects not only a deep commitment to patient care but also a track record of visionary leadership, professional excellence, and a strong voice in shaping the future of cancer nursing."

The Award ceremony takes place in November - good luck Simon and congratulations on your shortlisting.
