Earlier this month, the lecture theatre at Huddersfield Royal Infirmary proudly hosted a truly first-of-its-kind CHFT Oral Surgery study day, welcoming oral surgery specialty trainees (StRs) from all across Yorkshire for a highly successful and productive event. It was organised and facilitated by Oral Surgery Consultant and Clinical Governance Lead, Dr Huda Jawad. The day was delivered in collaboration with the Yorkshire and Humber Deanery to show our continued support for StR training and education.

The comprehensive programme covered crucial topics, including an insightful session on coroner’s inquests led by Dr Jawad. It also featured expert presentations with Head of Legal Services, Sarah Mather, covering legal aspects in secondary care, and Compliance Director and Data Protection Officer, Helen Holt, who provided essential guidance on UK GDPR and data compliance.

Trainees came away thoroughly enthusiastic and having greatly enjoyed the experience, with hopes of establishing this valuable educational event on an annual basis moving forward.

Clinical Director for Head and Neck, Aletta Carbone, said: "It is fantastic to see CHFT hosting its first regional teaching for oral surgery trainees in the region. The work by the oral surgery consultants has not gone unnoticed here at the Trust and in the wider region. I was so proud to see the collaboration between differing disciplines to provide a well round educational experience, which is a testimony to our values. I look forward to this team providing more opportunities to future oral surgeons."

Sarah Mather said: “It was a fantastic and highly engaging session, and I was delighted to speak with oral surgery trainees from across the region. Understanding the legal aspects of healthcare is an important part of clinical practice, and I was delighted to help equip our future consultants with knowledge and practical understanding that will support them throughout their careers.”
