Pastoral Care

Pastoral Care involves emotional, social and spiritual care, being in hospital is generally a worrying time and support through listening to worries and fears helps people to cope and find hope and comfort in their situation.

Whilst pastoral care is a natural part of the care and support provided by all those in healthcare workers, chaplains can help by providing additional support for patients, families and staff.

All referrals are assessed individually by the chaplain receiving the referral and decisions made regarding face-to-face visits made in consultation with the ward staff. In the event of visiting restrictions being in place the chaplains may also offer telephone support or ‘virtual’ visits.

The chaplaincy team also offers bereavement support and periodically hold special Services of Remembrance for those who have lost a loved one and for babies lost due to miscarriage or stillbirth. Services can also be arranged on request for remembrance and other special occasions.
