During the Small Bowel Capsule Endoscopy

You will be in the Endoscopy unit for about an hour.

The nurse will explain the procedure to you and ask you to sign a consent form. This is a good time to ask any other questions you may have.

The belt will be fitted around your waist with the data recorder attached.  Once this is in place you will be asked to swallow the video capsule with a small amount of water.  The progress of your video capsule via the data recorder will be monitored.  Once the video capsule is in the stomach you will be discharged home.  During the test you should avoid physical exercise that makes you sweaty. You should also try to avoid bending or stooping.

You will be asked to return in approximately 9 hours time to have the data recorder removed.

Usually, you should not eat or drink for 2 hours after the start of the test. Then you can drink clear fluids. After 4 hours you can have a light snack.   Once the test has been completed and the recording device removed you may return to your normal diet.
