Preparation for procedure

You will be required to fast for this procedure, You should not eat or drink anything from 9am on the day of your test if it is scheduled for the afternoon and you should not eat or drink anything from midnight the day before your test if it is scheduled for the morning. Failure to do this may result in cancellation on the day.

Because you are having sedation, it is important that you arrange transport to and from the hospital. You must not drive yourself.

On admission the nurse will ask you a number of questions about your health to ensure you are able to go ahead with the procedure. It is important that you have a list of all your medications to hand to give to the nurse. If you are unsure about your medication, contact your GP practice and ask them to provide you with a list. You will be able to ask any questions you may have about the procedure.

If you are taking any medicines to ‘thin the blood’ such as Aspirin, Warfarin, Clopidogrel, Ticagrelor, Dipyridamol, Apixaban, Rivaroxaban, Debigatran or Edoxaban. These medications may need to be stopped before the test.
