What we do - Exercise

Exercise is an important part of managing inflammatory disease.

  • There is evidence to show that progressive resistance training is safe and has a meaningful impact on quality of life, strength and function in people with rheumatic diseases.
  • Exercise is recommended by the World Health Organisation, European League Against Rheumatic disease and British Society for Rheumatology in the management of long term conditions.
  • Exercise can be for your whole body or can be more specific to areas where you have problems.
  • Your physiotherapist is an expert in prescribing exercise and will help you find a programme that is effective for you.
  • The aims of treatment are to give you the tools to self-manage your condition into the future without unnecessary appointments in hospital. For this reason, it is important that you continue with your programme even after you might be discharged from physiotherapy.
