Bladder problems

Stress incontinence is the accidental leakage of urine when you do something that increases the pressure in the tummy. This could include; coughing, sneezing, laughing, lifting your baby and exercise.

Bladder urgency can make you feel you need to rush to the toilet quickly to wee, and sometimes may not get there in time.

You may go for a wee more often than normal and may wake up at night needing to wee.

What can I do about it?

You can start to practice your pelvic floor exercises (see the leaflets and videos below on how to do them), and ask your GP, midwife or health visitor for a referral to the Women’s Health Physiotherapy Service.

We will assess you, and give you advice and exercises to help with the problems you are experiencing.

Evidence shows that it can take three to four months to improve pelvic floor dysfunction, so it is essential to be active and committed to your personalised management plan.
