Workshops and programmes
We run a range of workshops and programmes designed to help you feel more supported and confident during and after cancer treatment.
First Steps
First Steps is a supportive monthly session at CHFT for people who have recently been diagnosed with cancer, as well as their relatives and carers. The session is designed to help you better understand what to expect following a diagnosis and to introduce the range of support available to you. It provides a relaxed and welcoming environment where you can receive helpful information, ask questions, and meet others who may be going through a similar experience. Led by members of the Cancer Information and Support team and other healthcare professionals, First Steps aims to help you feel more informed, supported and confident about the next steps in your cancer journey.
The HOPE Programme
Provided by Macmillan Cancer Support, the Hope programme is a free online self-management course designed to support people living with and beyond cancer. Delivered over several weekly sessions, the programme helps participants build confidence, manage the emotional and physical impact of cancer, and develop practical strategies to support their health and wellbeing. Topics include coping with fatigue, managing stress and difficult emotions, improving communication, setting realistic goals, and making positive lifestyle changes. The course also offers the opportunity to connect with others who may be going through similar experiences in a supportive and understanding environment.
Thinking Ahead
Thinking Ahead is a supportive course offered at CHFT for people affected by cancer who would like to feel more prepared for the future. The sessions provide a safe and relaxed space to explore topics such as planning ahead, understanding choices around care, and having important conversations with loved ones. Led by experienced staff, the course encourages open discussion and helps people think about what matters most to them, while providing practical information and guidance. Thinking Ahead is available both online and in person, allowing you to take part in the way that feels most comfortable for you. The sessions are informal, supportive, and designed to help you feel more informed, confident and in control of future decisions.
Look Good Feel Better – Skincare and Make-Up Workshop
Look Good Feel Better is a friendly and uplifting workshop designed to help people manage some of the visible side effects of cancer treatment. Led by trained beauty professionals, these sessions offer practical tips and guidance on skincare and make-up techniques that can help with changes to skin, eyebrows and eyelashes during treatment. The workshop provides a relaxed and supportive environment where you can learn new skills, try products, and spend time with others who may be going through a similar experience.
Each person who attends will also receive a complimentary make-up and skincare kit, allowing you to practise the techniques demonstrated during the session and continue using the products at home. As well as helping you feel more confident in your appearance, the workshop offers an opportunity to take time for yourself, focus on wellbeing, and enjoy a positive and supportive experience.
